Year 1 Visit Marwell Zoo!
On Thursday last week, the children from Year 1 at Pine Ridge and Lorraine Infant Schools went on their school trip to a very sunny Marwell Zoo.
The children had a fantastic time learning about the animals and were able to take part in an Evolution workshop where a wonderful lady called Sue (pictured holding the giraffe skull) educated them on the evolution of mammals, specifically giraffes.
They also learnt all about poo at the zoo! Over 700 tonnes of animal waste including dung, soiled bedding and leftover hay is used for renewable energy within the zoo. It is converted using state of the art technology to provide heating for buildings across the zoo. This also helps to reduce its carbon footprint and dependency on fossil fuels. The children were mesmerised by this!
The children were impeccably behaved and it was a real privilege to take them and have them represent Pine Ridge and Lorraine Infant Schools.
