White Watch Visit Oak Class at Pine Ridge Infant School
This week, Oak Class have been learning about fire safety using Surrey Fire and Rescue Service’s learning activity box and on Wednesday, a crew from Camberley Fire Station came to visit the children.
Part of their work is to visit schools to teach children and young people key fire safety skills. We want all families to be safe from fire, so please take some time to ask them what they have learnt. Some of the areas covered were:
- What firefighters do
- Fire is hot so they should stay away
- 999 is the emergency number
The children got to see the firefighters in their fire kit and were then taken outside to look around the fire engine. The children were shown all of the equipment that is stored in the fire engine from the 'Jaws of Life' used to free people trapped in vehicles, their huge first aid kit and other tools used to help them enter buildings when people need rescuing. They learnt many interesting facts; one of which is that the fire engine itself is able to carry 4,000 litres of water!
Then came the part everyone had been waiting for... a chance to use the hose! As you can see from the pictures, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience, even the teachers!
We are very grateful to the firefighters from Camberley Fire Station for coming to visit us and we are looking forward to their visit to Owls Class next week at Lorraine!
