History Heats Up as Year 2 Explore The Great Fire of London
This half term, Year 2 have been fully immersed in their topic on the Great Fire of London! The children have explored what life was like in London in 1666, learnt about the timeline of the fire, and discovered how building design at the time contributed to the spread of the flames.
As part of our DT work, the children have designed their own 1666-style house, used a saw to carefully cut wood for their structure, used a glue gun to assemble their houses and the children have begun decorating their Tudor-style buildings.
They also took part in an exciting Great Fire of London workshop at Lorraine Infant School, which helped bring the history to life through hands-on activities and storytelling. In addition, they enjoyed a fire safety talk, where they learned important messages about staying safe around fires today.
We are so proud of the children’s enthusiasm, creativity, and teamwork throughout this project. We can’t wait to share their finished houses with you soon at our showcase.
