Year 2's Autumn Adventures

This half term, our Year 2 classes have been busy with lots of exciting learning across the curriculum.

In Wider Curriculum, we have been learning about different materials and investigating whether they are waterproof.  We carried out an experiment in the playground to test a variety of materials and developed our scientific enquiry skills by making predictions and discussing our results.  We also explored different styles of coats and enjoyed a classroom fashion show to compare their features.  Building on this learning, we learned how to sew a running stitch and used coloured felt to design and make coats for our travelling bear.

In Maths, we have been developing our understanding of place value and have been learning about odd and even numbers.  We have also been practising adding two and three numbers together, using a range of strategies to solve calculations efficiently and confidently.

In English, we have been reading and retelling stories, focusing on key writing skills such as using capital letters, finger spaces, full stops and interesting adjectives to make our writing more engaging.  We have also enjoyed exploring the season of autumn through poetry, using descriptive language to create our own seasonal poems.

We are very proud of all the hard work, enthusiasm and creativity the children have shown this half term and look forward to another exciting term of learning ahead.
